I have a little PDVR Recorder that I am recording video files onto from a small camera. The files record as ASF files. When I play the footage back on my PC through Windows Media Player the video becomes pixellated whenever something moves quickly or near the camera.

However, when I play it back to a seperate monitor through the AV Out on the original recording device I have no pixellation....

Has anyone encountered similar issues with the file type and can recommend remedies/software I could download?

    Any help would be appreciated

Are you watching the files in a window on the pc or full screen. ASF files are typically low res, so TV viewing would be less likely to show the low quality.

Thanks for the advice Krispy, do you have any more info on ASF files or perhaps know where I can get some...as the forum name suggests I am complete noob, so know nothing!

  4. I believe ASF files can contain multiple video streams with different bitrates. Maybe the recorder is playing a high bitrate stream and WMP is playing a low bitrate stream? Maybe the recorder is using a deblocking filter?

  6. VLC can play all the streams in WMV and ASF files.
