Hi,
Can eny one tell me way it takes forever!, about 4 ours to rip a 5Gig DVD retail
I am running on G4 933Mhz with a Superdrive, 1.5 Gigs of Ram, OSX server 1.5. I am using DVD Backup, Extrator, OSEx 0.0110a1 and yade on OS 9. Is it the superdrive that is very slow or do I have a Hardware problem at all???? On a PC, DVD ripping is very fast about 10times speed with a 16X speed DVD-rom drive.
Please help me out here!

i wish i could tell you what is wrong, i run 10.2 with a DP 800 and it doesnt take me nearly that long to rip a 7 gig dvd.. takes me an hour at most.. and thats just a rough estimate, it DEFINITELY doesn't take nearly 5 hours. I would say maybe the difference is 10.2 to 10.1 (even tho its server vs. client, still any difference u see between 10.1 client and 10.2 client should be evident with 10.1 server vs. 10.2 server) although i dont remeber dvd ripping being THAT much slower in 10.1 then in 10.2....

I have a 1GHz G4 and had a the same problem once with OSEx and a 4GB 3Stooges DVD. It was real slow when using the "DVD folders" option in OSEx on this particular DVD. I ended up using DVDBackup and it worked fine. All those programs run slow for you? Has it always been like that or did it just start happening recently? Have you tried another DVD? Maybe it's a decryption problem with that particular DVD.

DVD Ripping has allways been very slow, but some days ago I was talking to some of my friends about DVD ripping, and I told them at it will take me about 4 ours or more to rip a retail DVD, on my Mac they use PC and they rip a complete DVD in about 20min. BIG DIFFERENT. I donīt now what to do next. My boot disk runs in ATA but all my video disk run in SCSI some with 10.000 rpm and some 15.000 rpm on a dual channel ATTO Express UL4D controller and those scsi discs are very very fast.!!!
Mybe if I buy a new DVD rom 16 x speed with a firewire interface it will help out my problem, But it canīt be right if the superdrive "A03" is that slow for reading, I was just checking pioneerīs website the A03 reads 2x speed 2.77MB/s on a dual layer DVD, and 4x speed on a singel layer 5.54 MB/s. Mybe this is the Problem. I just donīt now.
Anyone has an idea -
I noticed that the slowness only happens when ripping the dvd as a image or with the "DVD folders" option. OSEx rips fast if you rip by chapters. DVDExtractor in OS9 will make an image in about 20mins.

Hi
I just got a new DVD-rom ATA drive 16x speed and then put it in to a Firewire cabinet, I have tried to rip a DVD under OS9 it works perfect about 8 min. and 45 sec.to rip 6.7 Gigs, but under OSX it takes about 4 ours hmmm. I have tried with a clean OSX 10.1.5 "not server" it didenīt help at all, same problem as before under OSX sever.
Is there anyone that can help me out here, i am lost for now
