  1. I normally wouldn't want to convert to VHS, rather than from VHS, but here's the story so to speak.

I had a friedn send me some Anime Videos in Return for something I encoded off of the TV, he sent the Videos in DivX AVI format, which, naturally, is incompatible with my MJPEG Capture Card; a Pinnacle DC10Plus. I've tried Several times to "convert" the Video to an MPEG AVI, using several prgrams, including:

    VirtualDub
    TMPGEnc*
    DVD2AVI
    Arcsoft VideoImpression
*Note: I made an MPEG-1 File first, because this had worked in the past on a few Videos.

I can get an MPEG-1 File just fine, but Pinnacle Studio 7 only "reads" MJPEG AVI files, and I want to put the files this guy sent me onto VHS, as well as VCD (I don't have a working DVD/VCD Player, and I don't know if I can Transfer a VCD to DVD once I buy a Panasonic DMR-HS2 Set-Top DVD Recorder).

If anybody can tell me how to convdert the MPEG-1 File back to an MJPEG AVI, that Pinncale Studio Version 7 can read, I'd greatly apprecaite it, if I lose a little Video Quality I don't Mind, this is more of a "I need HDD Space" Problem, than it is a Problem with the "Video Format" being DivX, If I could just store it on the HDD I would, but I don't have that kind of Hard Drive space.

With that said, thank you in advance for any help,
    Regards,
    Cyrax9

What happened after you loaded the file into Virtual Dub, selected PicVideo's MJPEG codec and saved?
    Hello.

  3. Well, I tried three Codecs in Virtual Dub, two that I know have worked in the past and are supported by Pinnacle Studio 7 for "AVI" Viodeo Files. The first one was the PicVideo MJPEG Codec, which came with Virutal Dub;located Directly Above the Codec that came with my copy of Studio 7 (the program I'm using for output), that Codec gave me an error in Studio 7 saying that "This File was not Compressed with MPJEG [16] Studio 7 Codec, and can not be output to Videotape".

I tried it again, this time with the "Cinepak Codec by Radius", which haas worked well in the pas; beter than Studio's on Codec. I got the same error message "This File was not compressed with MJPEG [16] Studio 7 Codec, and can not be output to Video tape", which now had me thorughly confused, because I'd used this Codec before and had perfect, if not better than perfect results.

Finally I tried Studio's MJPEG [16] Codec as suggested, and strangely enough I recived the same error "This File was not Compressed with MJPEG [16] Studio 7 codec, and can not be output to video tape"; now I was as angry as I was confused, because I had just used the "DEfault' Studio codec, and WMP played the movie fine, as did WinAmp3, which I used to make sure the File wasn't corrupt.

I tried the Stuio [16] MJPEG Codec again, but instead of using Virtual Dub, I used Arcsofts VideoImpression which came with my copy of "Roxio Easy CD Creator 5", the Video, again came out fine (played fine on the PC), but when I went to make a VHS Cassette, A "Screen" came up in the Preview Window Which read something likem"Pinnacle Studio 7 Video Output" on a "Silver" Background, I tried to get an output form the AVI but wound up with the "Emergancy Broadcast System" style "Vertical Colored Bars" on the Screen and Distorted sound.

Do you think it might actually be Studio and not Virtual Dub? The Virtual Dub files worked fine, it's only when I try to make a VHS Tape with Studio that a problem arises.

    Any help would be apprecaited.

I wonder if you read the header of a good file versus a rejected file and checked the avi codec "fourcc code" what you would get.

I have an old program here called :

    "AVI FourCC Changer v1.00 - www.inmatrix.com"

It allows you to check and modify the code of a file.

I wonder if that's all the card / software is checking and if you could fix it.

Make a copy before changing the file.

This will only work if the wrong id was put there even though the compression was done properly.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
