  1. and i've used 2 different types of cd-r's trying to burn using nero, an mpg that i converted in TMPGE,....

1stly, does it make it a big difference whether i specify (in TMPGE) as 74min cd-r or 80min cd-r?....

will this affect the outcome once i attempt to burn in NERO....??

any help is more than appreciated and if i've asked a question that has already been dealt with, i was unable to find it on the search function...

if anyone can guide me in the right direction, i would be thankful...

    pea's.

  2. It makes no difference unless you are making a X(S)VCD to fit a movie on one CDR/RW - in this case TMPGEnc will adjust the file size to fit the CDR/RW, so if you told TMPGEnc to fit it on 80 min CDR/RW but tried to burn the file onto 74 min media then it won't fit.

If you're encoding to (S)VCD then, regardless of what media you chose, the outcome will still be the same and shouldn't create any problems with Nero unless the output file is too big to fit on your chosen media (in most cases it IS big enough to not fit on one CDR/RW - you need to split the file in 2 or 3 smaller files and burn each part onto a separate CDR/RW).

    Regards.

  3. i thank you kindly for a prompt response....

now, the problem i'm facing is this...

i used TMPGE and chose 80min(700mb) and i used the same type of cd-r...

so when nero tells me that it is "not writable" it is NOT telling me to use a cd-rw is it?...

    coz it says "CD-R/RW"....
and this entails either or, correct?

i'm trying to convert the avi file into mpg on a 74min in TMPGE now, and i'll see if that helps any, if not, what else could be the problem....

  4. No, it isn't asking for CDRW, it sounds like your CDR is a "coaster" (unusable) - try putting in another one, best if of different brand.

This may be unrelated but I have had that message from Nero when I thought I had enough room on the CDR (80 minx) because it only went into the yellow down the bottom but in fact I was a couple of bytes over 80 mins (but not enough to make the red line look obvious) I guess because removing or shortneing one of the mpgs by only a few seconds was enough for it to write the CD.
It had nothing to do with the quality or brand of the CDR.

Maybe you have too many or large file s[ace requirement?

  6. o kewl, thank you for your help....

    and i've tried 3 different cd-r's (2 separate brands).....

as for dawson, how can i shorten out the mpg by only a few seconds?

what program do i use to do this....

i will try again, thank you for your concern....

and yes, it shows that i have plenty of room on the cd-r drive so i dont think that's a problem, but i will try and shorten it down a bit...

  7. dfabix,

The only other thing i can think of (if file is not too large to fit onto CDR/RW) is existance of more than 1 burning application on your system - i had problems in the past when i had installed 3 separate Authoring progs: Nero, VCDEasy and Roxio. I uninstalled VCDEasy and most of my problems disappeared, i do get some still due to the fact that i've still got 2 different burning apps on my system but i can usually work around these as i need both of them running simultaneously.

  8. thanx, i'll try and burn them using something other than NERO

will HPRecord now help me any, coz that's what i usually use for music and stuff.....

    thanx..

btw, do i have to burn the cd-r in a special way in order for it to be viewed as VCD or is it the format that i converted it to in TMPGE good enough....

i guess what i'm asking is this, ...
in my HPRecord NOW application (what i usually use to burn music & data)....
there is no choice for VCD recording, so does that mean i would merely choose "create a new data disc"...
and then drag my mpg file onto the cd as data....???
if i do this, will it still play as a VCD?

sorry, for being annoying on this tuesday, peas!

  9. Never heard of HPRecord

Try VCDEasy - it is one of the best free Authoring progs out there.

    Here's the guide.

No, it has to be a VCD format (it needs special structure of folders and files) so try the above prog.

Forgive me for asking, but I assume in Nero you did go "new" and selected "VCD" from the menu and set what defaults for the VCD you wanted first?

Then by placing the mpgs into the new compilation the other support files and directories for the CD are created automatically.

  11. yes, mr. dawson i did all those things and it still didnt work

so now i isntalled vcdeasy and did the proper aspi things to get it working...

i will try and burn and then let you know how things go...

thanx for walking a NEWidiot thru the process....

    Cheers alll around.

  12. i tried to burn,

it created an xml file successfully....
it wrote the cd image file successfully....
and then it got to the "getting the cd info" part and it stayed there for quite sometime before....
    giving me an error...

    [CDRDAO Disk Info]
    Cdrdao version 1.1.5
    ERROR:Inquiry command failed on '2,1,0'
ERROR:Inquiry failed and no driver id is specified
ERROR:Please use option --driver to specify a driver id
    ERROR:Cannot setup device 2,1,0

then i get a window that says...
    "internal xml generation" execution succeeded

    "VCDxBUILD.exe" execution succeeded
finished ok, image created with 215575 sectors [47:54:25]

  13. At the bottom of that guide, to which i provided a link in my previous post, there is a section called Problems - it sounds like your problem is closely related to it ( i take you DID check Enable CDRDAO Integration before restarting your VCDEasy).
    Quote Quote
  14. yes sir, i checked the CDRDAO enabled and then restarted the vcdeasy program....

however, i shall go back to the guide and re-read the section to see if it can help....

  15. i tried to burn the .cue file directly with nero and it gave me the same initial error message of "not a writable cd-r/rw"....

well, maybe it simply wasnt meant to be....

is there a way i can generate the .bin & .cue files on vcdeasy and then burn them directly as a data disc?
or does this just not work.....

i read on how to burn .bin/cue files....

but like i said, in nero it didnt work...

is it worth me dl'ing cdrwin (?) and then trying to do it thru there....

will it still function as a vcd?

    thanx.

  16. There have been situations when people had problems with their Burning Apps, most of the time they solved it by finding an app that works. So yes, if i was you i would go for CDRWin or Fireburner to see if they work for me (just make sure you uninstall the other Burning apps before you do so to avoid conflicts).

    with VCDEasy
    have you tried this

    Stettings>>>CDRDOA>>>Force Driver=Generic-mmc
    or also try Generic-mmc-raw

you could also try "Force Execution"

i assume that your cd burner is displayed in the cd writer section on the top of the same page

i got a few problems with vcdeasy, then i done the above changes and the raw option worked for me.

    i hope this helps

  18. o.k, i tried to do the generic-mmc-raw and it almost worked except that it says "cannot setup disk-at-once writing for this drive"....

so i assume i need to set it up as "track-at-once"....

i was unable to find this in vcd easy....

    can you direct me?...

i also, checked the working burners and the one i own is listed as working....

so maybe i need to just change the "track-at-once'....

    any help?

    thanx in advance.

somebody correct me if im wrong, but i dont think u can burn a (S)VCD in track-at-once..... i think CDRDOA is disk-at-once

is it only (S)VCD that u cant burn or is it any type, ie can u burn data or audio disks with nero???

if your burner is in the list at http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html then it also says what driver u should be useing. have a look if u didnt already

    dfabix,
I've sat on the sidelines following this post and am beginning to see a common denominator. None of the burning apps can seem to access the drive properly. Now this could be a result of a screwed up ASPI installation which I doubt since Nero uses it's own ASPI layer or a bad system configuration. Another possibilty being that the drive itself is screwed up. Have you been able to burn anything else since you started this? Also having multiple types of burning software installed on your system has been know to create all kinds of havoc with one conflicting with the other sometimes rendering the drive unusable. I suggest starting from the beginning and uninstall everthing and re-install just one with Nero being my favorite choice. After this there is always the other choice:
    Format C:.........lol
    Warning! I'm baaaaaaaaack

  21. my burner is listed in that list (HP CD-Writer+7200) and i used the "generic-mmc-raw" as it says there also...

    but it still didnt work...

    to kayfam....

thank you for your advice and watching over my situation...
i did actually uninstall the "HPRECORDNOW" that i was using (downloaded from the HP website as being compatible with my burner).....

and then tried to only install NERO but for some odd freaking reason, it still doesnt work for me....

it gets to the point where everything is working except the actual burning...

i've come to the conclusion that this is too much drama for some free movies
plus i'm doing all this at work for lack of a computer at home...

maybe once i get a home computer and internet access i'll start the process over with fresh equipment....
(and avoid the "Format C:" which i've already done once when moving to the new office so i can install windows 2000 on my computer)....

thank you all for your help and consideration, truly it was a lesson taught...

    pea's.
