New to this. I have a pal video camera and have captured the file as pal avi. If I burn into svcd as pal because i have a region 2 dvd will I then be able to play my svcd on a region 1 dvd?

VCD's and SVCD's aren't region coded, so you'll have no problem playing the disc.

What about pal and ntsc will the dvd player read them or does it not matter. Will I need to convert to NTSC? Does the mpeg make it international? -
Some DVD players will convert from Pal to NTSC internally, others output PAL when playing PAL disks and so require a PAL capable TV. The opposite (NTSC to PAL) is more common and multi standard TV's are VERY common in europe even though manufacturers tend not to advertise the fact.
