  1. so i downloaded "jamie foxx - i might need security".. it said it was an svcd.. once i extracted it, it came out as an mpeg file, not cue/bin.. so i double click on the file not expecting it to play through wmp6.4.. seeing as how i do not have the mpeg2 codec currently installed.. but it played.. so i figured they just thought it was svcd(mpeg2), but it was really vcd(mpeg1).. so i opened it up through powerdvd where it will display the properties of the video.. mpeg 2 video (vbr), and 224k audio..

so now i'm thinking "maybe i do have the mpeg2 codec installed".. so i mount an svcd image through daemon tools and try opening the mpeg file off it.. no dice..

the video is 480x480, not 352x240..

can someone tell me what is going on here?

480 x 480 is the size for svcd. WMP Will sometimes play svcd. other times not. Who knows why. I have windvd and it still sometimes won't play svcd files.

  3. If you have Power DVD installed you should have a MPG2 codec on your system that Media Player can use. I do not know why in that case it isn't playing it.

If the video is 480x480, MPG2, 224kb it is a SVCD.

How do you want to view the file you have downloaded? On the PC or on a standalone unit?

Also about the daemon tools part, isn't that just for Image files, not files in general?

daemon tools is just for image files (cue/bin, iso, nrg), but when you mount them they make a virtual cd-rom of the image.. and when i try to open the mpeg (mpeg2) it wont play. only though powerdvd.. the only way to play mpeg2's is through powerdvd or install the mpeg2 codec, which i havent..

i just dont understand why this file plays, and others dont..

i remember hearing a while back about people making mpeg1's appear to be mpeg2's to trick their standalone dvd players in to playing the discs.. could that be the case here?
