Unable to Rip certain Movies, Please advise

I have successfully ripped 27 movies but no matter what i do i can not rip the following films

Tomb Raider
Swordfish
Stir Of Echoes
Dude, Where's My Car

I use smart ripper but have tried other rippers with no success.

The problem is, it gets around 3 minutes into the film then freezes.

Could anybody here shed some light on why this is happening and if possible a remedy.

Use DVD Decrypter.

i have sucessfully ripped Tomb Radier with that.

I had the same issue with Bridget Jones (for the girlfriend ) Used my other computer with a different dvd drive and it worked perfectly. My advice, try another dvd-rom drive. Hope this helps

I think Bel is correct. I tried ripping Jurassic Park III on a Lite-on 16x DVDrom. Failed with Smartripper and DVD Decrypter,it would get thru 75% and then freeze with both rippers. I switcehed to my other computer with a Sony 16x drive and it ripped without any problem.

Can't see how the DVD Drive can be the problem, but will have to try it on a diffrent drive. Although i don't have a second drive or a second PC.

I'm using Philips DVDRW1208 Anyone else had any trouble with this drive?

I have had similar problems and have tried the following successfully on several occassions.

Copy the entire DVD to your HDD and then use smart-ripper or whatever to rip from the HDD copy. According to other posts on this site copying is not as intrusive or intense on the DVD and overcomes flaws that would otherwise cause ripping programs to fail. (check old posts on this forum)

Also from old posts it would appear that occassionaly the DVD media could be bad. DVD player will work however the DVDROM will fail (check old posts)

Of course this assumes that the disk is not visibly damaged, scratched etc. I always polish the DVD with dishwashing detergent and a wet paper towel under running water to get rid of all contaminants.

If it still fails, sigh, shrug and move on.......

I'm just checking in to see if someone has found a way to rip the Jurassic Park DVD from Universal. I've downloaded DVD Decriptor and the latest version of CladDVD and SmartRipper and cannot get past 30%.

A straight copy resutls in a ms error 1381 "The maximum number of secrets that may be stored in a single system has been exceeded."

Any current thoughts or idea's on this ..??

i use dvd2svcd and ripped both jurassic park 3 and swordfish without any problem

i used my lit on 16x dvd and smart ripper and had no problems with jurassic park111

hurassic park iii had no problem ripping that one....

always play dvd on power dvd or whatever u use b4
ripping,might solve ur issues,works when s/r cant
find aspi's 8)

I think the experiences with different DVD roms shows that either some DVD roms can't sustain the sort of continuous abuse that a rip entails, or some are more sensitive to protection than others.

It may be the media or the drive..

I ripped a few of those movies with no problems.

I use a 8x samsung sd-608 (region unlocked) and have no problems with any dvds..

Thanks for those who responded -

Well, I really didn't want to believe that it was the DVD drive, but I was using a Dell lite 16x here at work, and nothing would work, but when I took them home and used a Yamaha 32x everything worked. I used the same version of cladDvd here that choked at 30% but worked with no problems at home.

Go figure!

DVD2AVI to setup .d2v and .wav files
Tmpge to encode
Nero to burn
