  1. i joined the columbia house dvd club (4 dvd's for $10 to start, then i gotta buy 4 in the next 2 years, not so bad)..

so anyways, i got my first 4 dvd's and all but 1 worked fine, it wasnt even scratched or anything, but it wouldnt play this particular section of the movie, so i sent it back and got a replacement, that worked just fine. so anyways, i got another movie from them, and tried playing it, brand new outta the package. but again, there is a certain section in the movie that it wont play. the disc isnt scratched at all, but i cleaned it anyways.. and it still wont work.

anyhow, to get to the point. has anyone else had problems with columbia house dvd's? cos this is way weird to have problems with brand new dvd's..

do they manufacture their own dvd's or do they get them from the movie companies? what would be the cause behind the problems with their movies?

i've borrowed dvd's and rented dvd's that had alot of scratches on them that played without a hiccup..

i'm pretty sure its not my dvd player, cos it plays all my other discs just fine. and i cleaned the lens just to be sure..

    thanks for any replies

Well Columbia House definitely doesnt manufacture the dvds themselves. They are a reseller, just like any other place you would buy a dvd from. It's possible you just got bad luck and happended to get two faulty dvds in a row, bad disks do get shipped out accidentally by the manufacturers. But what alot of people dont know is that ALOT of dvds contain authoring mistakes which can trip up certain dvd players. Older dvd players or dvd players running older firmware often have problems handling these incorrectly authored dvds.

Also make sure the dvds didnt have some new function that your dvd player doesnt fully support like seamless branching or nuon (something like that.) I would give columbia house the benefit of the doubt for now. If it happens again tell them and they might give you some free dvds.

You should have tried playing the "defective" DVD in another DVD player to verify if it's defective or not. It could be that the DVD master is defective also.
