I have a Snappy (in the closet somewhere). Mine hooks into the parallel port. Used it for still captures only so can't help you with VCD. It does have the capability to capture av -- I just never played around with that format. Maybe I'll dig it up and check out the options there and post the results.

But if you do not own one yet, know this first: it is compatible only up to Win98. Play, Inc. went out of business and there is no more support for that device.

Another note of caution, Snappy will only work with Win98 *if* you were lucky enough to download the 98 patch from the Play.com site before they removed it from the web. I have the patch and will be happy to give it to anyone for free who wants it. (my homage to this site)

Some pirates on the web are charging $15 per patch, claiming that they had to "labour over the algorithms" - bullhock!!!! They did exactly what I did and downloaded it for free from Play, Inc.

    Good luck!

Laura, I'd like to get that patch from you if you'd be so kind.

Sure thing! I will search for that file in my archives over the weekend. I'd like to figure out a way to post it where it can be accessed by all. Have to check out this site to see if there is such a place here.

  5. Regarding the Snappy Video Snapshot device. My snappy appears to have 4 connections. One connection is for the printer port, one is video thru, then next to that is video in, and then there is another possible connection. Looks like a 5 pin connection going horizontally. Looks like a female connection, no pins sticking out. My best bet is the pins are inserted into there. Anyone have any idea what that is???

    -TIA
