Hi,
I just tried to convert a dvd to vcd.
I have come accross 2 probs so far.
1. In DVD2AVI I am missing an option on the menu to MP3Compress as in the newbe instructions.
2. In TMPGEnc, many options are grayed out in the wizard so I can't change the size of the end file, size etc.
Any help would be gratfully received.
Dave

1) Why mp3 compress? Better to save as wave which is what most people
at this forum do.
2) Ok, start tmpgenc and close the wizard if it starts up. Then click on
settings and choose the template that best fits your requirement. Then in the templates folder, in a subfolder is a mcf (settings file) called
UNLOCK. Load this up and the grey-out areas will be unlocked. Now save this mcf file as "yourname" in the TMPGENC\TEMPLATE folder. Then when you restart the wizard or tmpgenc itself, you can select yourname and the greyed out options will now be available. -
I was trying to folllow the newbie guide. it said to use mp3 compress on there.
Cheers anyway. Will try what you said with TMPGEnc.

sorry but which newbie guide? mp3 compression takes time and will
kill any surround you might want to keep. -
Sefys classical newbie start DVD Ripping guide in the DVD Rip
Did it as a wav file anyway, just thought i was doing it wrong or I hadn't installed dvd2avi correctly as it was missing that section. -
In the new DVD2AVI 1.76 (Build 1.85) you can select to save the Audio of your movie as MP3 (uses external Lame Encoder), I don't recommand using this switch
but when going on saying that he do not recommend it.
so do not use it. -
This is what sefey says in his guide.. please note the section I have highlighted.
you can select to save the Audio of your movie as MP3 (uses external Lame Encoder), I don't recommand using this switch for 2 reasons, one, it takes longer, two, using a compressed file as source for your Audio, will give you lower Audio Quality then using the Uncompressed Source
While this could be made clearer, the last time Sefy updated his
excellent guides they were stolen so I can understand why he
has not updated since.
Anyhow.. good luck with your 1st effort - hope it turns out better than
my first go -
tonyp12: Kind of a bad newbie guide if he show that settings
but when going on saying that he do not recommend it.
the second person ever to post that they had a problem with
this. Most must have read fully and understood what he was
trying to say. -
I'm new to all this stuff, and lack of understanding on my part is probably the problem here. I haven't a clue basically. Up until a couple of months ago, I had a 200MMX machine that I only used occasionally. I'm in the process of relearning everything.
I think the guides are excellent. It gives you everything, and having the screenshots is briliant. Makes it all so much easier.
EXCELLENT JOB SEFY!!!
Going home now to try to use TEMPEnc, as got a bit stuck this morning before work! I'll have some more time now. See how I get on. All looks OK so far . . . . -
Thank you guys! I appriciate that, and don't worry, I will continue work on my guides as soon as I have a job, and please forgive my english, it's only my second language, so I might have confused you with that sentence in the guide, if anyone has a better way to phrase that, please email it to me, and i'll replace what I wrote in the guide, heck, anyone willing to go through the guide and see what else I said wrong or incorrectly ?
Email me for faster replies!
