First sugestion is use windows XP....it will work...
The second is go to the microsoft site.....yeah I know.....but there is a special direct X patch for DV camera....specifically JVC.
I had exactly the same problem.....and the patch fixed it when i was using win98se....
However as I say XP has no problem with my JVC camera.
You will have to look pretty hard for the patch...it is there...sorry i do not have the time to look for it for you...it was over 12 months ago that I used it.
Hope this helps...no you are not insane....I even rang JVC here in Australia at the time and they send me this stupid patch that did not work.....only the microsoft one did...and then i sent IT to JVC in aussie....hehe -
Tony,
What chipset does your firewire card use? I had a friend with a Pyro bundle that included a TI chipset card that would not communicate with his Panasonic miniDV camcorder or my Canon.
I have a $30 VIA chipset firewire card (thanks CompUSA) in my PC that works flawlessly, so I put it in his PC and the cameras started talking to the PC.
My conclusion was that even though his PC "saw" the firewire card, it (the card) was not working properly.
He went out and bought the same $30 card and has had now problems since...
