Yeah, I'm pretty new with tv-capturing and editing captured home-videos with my Sony Hi8...I gotta ATI 8500 DV, all good, except the "editing software" included: Ulead VideoStudio5. I think it sucks, it can't even edit existing files. It also has problems finding my camcorder...so I was looking for:
1) the best editting program out there
2) the best one for around $50
Hope y'll can help me out.

I say download TMPGEnc Plus, and drop $48.00 of the $50.00 to get it registered. A lot of gurus here use it, and will be more than happy to help you.

One of the best: Avid Xpress DV - about $1300.00 USD
Another top marks: Adobe Premier - about $700.00 USD
More reasonable but less flash: Edit Studio 3 - about $100.00 USD
$50'ish range : DVD Movie Factory, Some of the Pinnacle software packages.
Free packages: Virtual Dub (you will need a VFW codec)
I'm sure there are others that I have missed.Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
