I have just ripped my first 'real' DVD. Now I want to burn it. I have read the articles posted here but I'm still a little confused. Do I need to convert it ? They are .vob files. The size of the movie is 7.5GB on my hard drive. What do I need to do now and what software should I use? And I 'm also having problems with my ASPI, what exactly is this and what to I need to do to update it or whatever. Also my blank DVDR's are only 4.7, am I going to have to split the file? I am new to this, I just bought a Sony DVD burner so your patience is appreciated. Thanks![]()

Try taking a look here:

A tip for the future. You can save yourself a lot of effort and maybe even abuse by making the effort to find the info you need for yourself rather than expecting to be spoon fed. The page I have provided the link to is not vey hard to find, in fact it is linked to quite clearly from the front page of this site!

Bugster, I was not trying to be spoon fed. I think I am no the only one confused by the tutorials, it's not like they are exactly user friendly to the newbie. Although you and the people who run this site are repulsed and annoyed by what you deem to be such stupid and easy questions, sometimes they they are not to people trying to learn. For one thing , it seems every tutorial refers to dvd-r as the media of chioce when everything I've seen and read is to the contrary. Don't loose sight of this site's purpose my friend. If every one knew as much as you and the people who run this site, then there would be no need for it. People trying to learn make this site possible, don't forget. Be a little more patient and understanding, it's just good karma. Thanks for your reply though, I'll take a look at it.

Hey kingkill33, don't get offended, none was intended and sorry if you felt I was not being helpful.
We do get loads of users who expect to be spoon fed evryting from how to insert a CD in to the drive to how to play pirated DVD's on thier VCR, so occasionally when a new user asks a rather vague question my answers may appear to be a little terse. I know I was a begginner at this stuff once and in many areas of digital video still am. In other areas I know a little more but am far from expert.
I rarley rip DVD's myself so am not best placed to answer your questions myself but I would like to give you one piece of advice with respect to the best way to get answers from the VCDHELP forums. Research your subject thoroughly, try things for yourself and be prepared to fail, then when things go wrong (which they most certainly will!) come back here. Explain what you did in quite a lot of detail and ask very specific questions. This way you are much more likley to get the answers you need than just asking 'how do I do this'. Vague questions either get ignored or you get such a flood of different ideas and methods it just gets even more confusing.
Anyway, good luck and Happy Ripping!
P.S.

Thats cool, I respect that. It's just frustrating when you spend tons of money on all these new gadgets and, like me spend hours and hours trying to figure it out and do nother but piss away your weekend and about 40 bucks worth of DVD coasters. And there is help but sometimes its very difficult to decipher. There is alot of ambiguity to this whole DVD burning thing and alot of places contradict themselves so It's tough to know who to believe. With that said, I will take your advice. And thank you.
