  1. So many reviews and so many models. Im thinking the DV-444 as my top choice with the DV-343 and DV-C503D in second and third. How does this sound? Will the Pioneer play anything you throw at them? How's the price? Are these newer models or are the ones i've mentioned here older? ARe the newer models better?

  2. I happen to have a Pioneer DV-C503. I chose this one because it's a 5-disc changer. I got tired of getting up and changing SVCDs all the time. Now I can load 5 discs (2 movies) and sit back and enjoy. Picture quality is good and plays about anything. Having said that, the search, FF, FB functions of DV-C503 suck big time. Repeat A-B doesn't work for SVCD, although SVCD chapters work. Just some info for you.

i have a 343 and it plays anything -- slighly noisy though ..

the door would not stay open , you had to hold it open to put a disk in - but this problem went away ...

real cheap as its discontinued model i believe

I got non progressive version the dv-440. It plays normal dvds perfect. It is quiet and good quality. There are some slight abnormalities though. It needs the release code 2 beta software mjpeg tools in vcdeasy to play still menus when authoring a svcd. It also will max out at 2600 when playing svcds. Ive heard that other dvd players will play at 4000. I have also heard in a couple of posts at people having problems playing their ripped dvds in pioneer dvd players. I think that these are good models but I would also research it a little.

  6. I have both the 343 and the C503

Both are excellent players.. play everything i toss at it and I encode a lot of stuff..

The video quality is superb on both, but you can't beat 5 discs loaded at once and no getting up.

I've now gone from making nice 2 disc SVCD rips to excellent quality 3 discs - since I no longer have to get my lazy ass up every 35-40 minutes.

check www.wholesaleconnection.com - they have the 503D for $149 new.
