  1. I converted the original VOB (widescreen version) files to mp2 and m2v using TMPGEnc with 16:9 Display (Aspect Ratio under Video tab) and 16:9 525 Line NTSC as Source Aspect Ratio in Advanced tab, also Full Screen (Keep aspect ratio) selection in the same tab. [I noticed though, when transcoding, there are two vertical black bars on the left and right of the TMPGEnc preview screen...like as if the width set is larger than the actual video source)].

So, after I compiled the m2v and mp2 files in DVDMaestro to get the final VOB files, the final VOB files play perfect on my PC as a VOB file using PowerDVD. But when I create a DVD disc with them and play them directly from a disc, the display stretches vertically and I end up with a 'forced' full screen. My widescreen has been forced to be displayed as a fullscreen and it is stretched! It's also like this on my standalone DVD player. (both pc and standalone dvd players have default settings..so I'm sure that's not the problem. It's probably in the encoding)

(On my PC, I could resize my display window and crunch it back down as a wide screen, and on my TV, I can turn on the Enhanced 16:9 mode which will give me the widescreen that's intended...but I don't wanna have to do that all the time.)

    Any tips?

Had this happen before because of bad settings... load the ifos into ifoedit and in each ifo edit near the top there are 2 settings for 4:3 or 16:9 make sure they are right and make sure the option to auto Letterbox in in effect, that should fix it for ya. Then just reburn it.

  3. Thanks! I'll check this out. Dang, I should have burnt the movie onto a DVD±RW first!

  4. In DVD Maestro, you can set the aspect ratio of the movie. Read this post for more info. You will most likely want 16:9 Letterbox.
