  1. Hi there,

I capture in PAL with a MIROvideo DC30+.

I am trying to encode to MPEG2 (DVD compliant) and I was told that CCE was much quicker than TMPGenc. This was indeed true, however I keep getting a "comb effect" on fast moving actions which instead I do not get with TMPGenc when usaing the "sharpen edge" filter.

Is there a way to get CCE files with no comb effect ? also, why do I ALWAYS have to select and modify the "sharpen edge" (Hor 127 and Vert -127) filter when using TMPGenc in order to avoid a comb effect from ruining image ?

I hope you guys can give a solution......

    Cheers

    Rick

What is it you are capturing? You are in a PAL region, so you shouldn't have any TELECINE combs. You may have a field order problem.

Also, what do you mean by "comb effect"?

Try changing your field order and see if this fixes your problem.

  3. Hi there,

    thanks for your answer.

I am capturing old sports games like basketball, football etc... By "comb effect" (this is what I heard people using) I mean horizontal lines that do not interlace properly from one frame to the other. However I see no way to fix any field order with CCE. I can change the field order with TMPEGenc but that is not necessary as I can avoid the problem by selecting the sharpen edge filter. The problem stays with CCE.....

I have no idea what to do....

    evening all.

    rpvc,
4what it's worth, sports are Interlaced. By that, I mean, each field is
interlaced, not IVTC or telecined or anything, just plain Interlaced. You'll
also get this w/ NEWs and Weather broadcast, and of course, the SOAPs
and other shows, or TV specials in this catagory.

You have to encode your video w/ Interlace turned on under BOTH Tabs
in TMPG - - Advanced, and Video. Then, it will be smooth.
