I was wondering if anybody knows....
1) when ripping and copying a full dvd-5 to dvd-r if the quality is the same or changes in any tiny way.
2) when ripping and copying a dvd-9 to 2 dvd-r if again the quality is the same or changes in any tiny way.![]()

8) The above message doesn't include encoding etc. I mean direct rip and copy.
-
A direct rip and copy without transcoding should produce a DVD-R with exactly the same quality as the original as long as the DVD-R is free from defects and the source DVD was clean enough for an accurate read.
-
yes but when we are doing cd copy we are talking about a little bit lack of quality........isn't this the same on dvd?
-
A CD copy of what? If you are talking about VCD then you will definately lose quality as you have to transcode. Basically, any loss of quality would be impossible for the average person to detect. If you can't tell the copy from the original, then I think you can safely say you have a perfect copy.

While a bit for bit copy is impossible, the error routines within the DVD-R spec will provide audio and video quality to match the original on known good media.
In generic lab tests, CD audio degrades at the 6th generation
and high quality DVD-R media matches at least half that.
ie.. original -> copy one -> copy of copy 1, copy of copy1(2)... to 1(6) -
for start thank you for you reply and please excuse my poort english
When i say cd copy, i mean audio cd to audio cd. There we have a liiiiitle loss of quality when comparing to the original. (bass, tremble etc.).
My question was if it is the same for dvd aslo. Because it has to go through dvd decrypter (or ifoedit for stip streams) and then burned.
Thank you -
There is a loss of quality.
On my 61-inch HDTV, I can see it. In a less demanding viewing environment, you will not see a difference.
I can see artifacts and slight jagged edges during rapid action moments...My system:

When it comes to Digital formats like CD and DVD.
If you make a Bit by Bit copy, the copy will look (sound) as good
as the original.
But if the Drive misses some pits due to dust/scratshes
it could be less quility.
But they do not show up as fussy or less colors,
but as Freezes / massive blockiness for a second. -

It's not impossible.
My domestic DVD player is a Pioneer DV-434 with progressive scan. I use the component video output.
I try to up the average bitrate of the output file, to fill the disc up, thinking more bits = beter picture. Is that a wrong assumption? My system:

We're talking DVD to DVD-R
using CLAD, TMPGEnc, SpruceUp and Gear Pro DVD 6, in that order.
In TMPGEnc, you can vary the 2-pass bitrate. I adjust it to fit (just) on a single DVD-R. I remove all menus, extras, etc.
I still see artifacts and jaggies. My system:

not to start any problems but to help clarify things...
PVANOSTA, i guess u didnt understand what TONYP12 said:
"We are talking about copy a DVD to DVDR without
any transcoding/re-encoding. "
that means only ripping and then copying .....NO RE-ENCODING
which means if u are using these programs: "TMPGEnc, SpruceUp and Gear Pro DVD 6, in that order. " you are talking about a dvd re-encode to fit on a dvd-r
not the same thingcheck out http://www.geocities.com/eatin_sammiches/sprucecreations.html to download additonal buttons and backgrounds for SPRUCE-UP menu creation -
OK, I stand corrected
.
But that's the only way I know how to copy a movie to DVD-R.
