I'm looking to burn my .avi's so i can play them in a regular DVD player to watch on my TV, but still keeping the same amount of quality I have as the version of my computer. I've been using DVDSanta, but with my DVD Player and TV the edges are dull and the colors are faded. What's the program i should use if I want to retain quality?

FAVC. However if you want to keep what mediocre quality you have, don't convert. Buy a player than plays Xvid/Divx natively and burn them to disc as data.
You cannot maintain the quality you perceive you have during conversion to DVD, no matter what software you use. The avi files you have are lower resolution and heavily compressed. The gamma curve of your monitor hides many of the compression flaws introduced by the conversion to Xvid/Divx in the first place. Converting them DVD exposes all these flaws, and risks introducing new ones.
Playback by a standalone without conversion at least does not introduce new problems, and if it is like my Pioneer, it may have filters to improve the image for playback.Read my blog here.
