Should windows see the actual drive or the drive kit?
I installed my Sony DRU500A through a 1394 Kit and windows see's the kit and a SPB2 IEEE 1394 compliant device.
I expected Windows to see the device and put it under the CD/DVD tab.
Windows reports instead a "Pyro 1394 IEEE 1394 Box + Repeater"
However, all applications see a DRU500A

this is correct.

Windows will not see the drive directly, but stuff like Nero will. However, be aware that some software may not recognize the drive. This is true also of some firmware updaters.

as long as Nero can see the drive, i'm happy.
Cause i can burn images through nero -
Make sure your External Box has the OXFORD 911 Chipset.. because the older chipsets don't work with this drive. and the OS does not see it.

You don't, or rather can't. Shouldn't be a problem, never has been with my drives.
