  1. what im hoping is that, without significant quality loss, i can get an xsvcd to hold as many episodes of a show as possible... theyre all about 40-45 minutes divx 5 200kbps (80MB) each, and, of course, a conversion to standard svcd will only allow one episode per disc, but since these are only 200 birate divx encodes, a straight converion to svcd standard would be ridiculously unnescessary... so what im wondering is: is there a good way to predict what bitrate i should use to achieve a (for all intents and purposes) "lossless" conversion (of course i realise there will always be loss just due to the fact that im convering the file, but im looking for as close to that as possible)... also, if the source is non-interlaced, will using mpeg2 at the same resolution make it look worse even assuming the bitrates should be producing the same quality, or will it make no differance once played through my dvd player? if not should i stick to mpeg1 or will the better compression offered by mpeg2 be a big enough differance to make me want to use that?

thanks for any replies i get ahead of time 8^]

as an average, a svcd is encoded about 2.5 times as big as a divx at vbr to keep the quality. so in theory, your 80 mb file should be encoded to a size of about 200mb to keep the same quality. the only problem i see, is how many minutes you can fit on a single cd.

wait for more post before you decide.
