  1. Pioneer set top players.

Lots of cheap media out there, but no idea what works and what
doesn't, and I tend to like buying in bulk.

    thanks

  2. ok 72 reads and no replies.. how about i rephrase it....

Is any of the low priced 2X media (say merit 2x, the ritek blue/gold
that supposedly is 2x, etc) reliable? as in it'll both burn at the rated
speed and not go blocky or get stuck toward the outsides of the disk?

    thanks

  3. I am using the Ritek's and so far they have been great in my A04 (104). They are the gold top/purple bottom ones with small writing around the outside edge. They will burn at 2x, but only with 1.31 version firmware. For the price/reliability they are the best DVD-R's out there right now, in my opinion. Of course your dvd player might not like them. I have an Apex 1500 that is great, and a Sampo 620 that plays most of them, with the occasional lock-up.

    use princo's whites/purples, 50 pack goes for 50 bucks,
you can go to meritline and get lots of them there, but
thats not where i get em,stay away from the silver ones
,no where to write on em....

cool news. I ordered a 25 pack of them... to test them out (was going to go with a giant order, but it smelled fishy... good to see it's for real. I'm gonna order a boat load soon as I do a few tests. Best deal out there.

Which Ritek are you talking about? there are several different types. CDRDVDRmedia.com has a 25 pck for $24.75.

Wondered about other off brand DVD_R media?

    ACCU
    optodisc
    dvdpro
    meritline

I've tried ACCU, Optodisc and Dvdpro all have problems. The Optodisc was the best by far. I found TDK as the best for the buck purchase, the disks play on every player I tried even my son's Playstation 2.

The other three media listed above have problems with stuttering video and lockups towards the end of the movie. I've yet had any TDK disc lockup or stutter while playing.

It may cost a little more, but for me compatiblity and less fustration is the word.

  9. I was mistaken on the colors...

The ones I ordered from Meritline:

    http://www.meritline.com/rithigqualgo.html

are the silver top/purple bottoms that they claim are 2x on 1.31 firmware on a pioneer.

Well I just popped on in the drive and nero only shows it as 1X.

    Big rip.
