  1. CERTAINLY SOMEBODY else it fed up with having to go thru 50 different programs and learn 1000 new commands and codec and what they are used for etc..etc..... JUST TO BURN A VCD or SVCD or to copy a DVD!!!

Isn't there just ONE program that can CAPTURE in various formats and can be adjusted the users needs, then allows you to EDIT the video and add menus and such, then let you BURN the resulting video out to CD-R, CD-RW or DVD+/-RW in any format or bitrate needed to get a project to FIT the media being used??????

There just has to be an eaier way.

Every time I come to this site, I get a headache, and leave confused. So many options and ways of doing things.

This place is GREAT for information, but you would think SOMEONE has put this all together in a user friendly PACKAGE?

    Is there such a thing?????

  2. If you want a all-in-one package, you can try DVD2SVCD. Digital video is not that simple to learn, so please be a little patient.

Copying dvd's is not simple and that is for a reason. If it were too easy everybody and there dog woudl copy all the rentals and movie sales would be non existent. thats why dvd's are encrypted, and if you want a "Good Looking" copy of it Its going to take time and patience.

If piracy was easy everyone would wear eyepatches

  4. All I want to do is capture TV shows with my video card, edit them (remove the comercials, which leaves about 45 minutes of TV show) and then add a simple menu structure. I would then like to burn the video to CD-RW.

I do not copy DVD's, don't know how, don't want to. If it's good enugh to keep, it's worth buying. Less hastle!

I record several shows a week, CHARMED (for the wife), ENTERPRISE, X-FILES, CSI and would like to copy them to SCVD until such time they are available on DVD. My VHS collection is just TOO BIG!

I have PINNACLE STUDIO 8, wich works GREAT, but will not let me adjust the BITRATE to get the entire 45 minutes on one disk. The program only lets you get 39minutes max in SVCD mode. I am forced to copy to VCD, wich I don't care for as much.

I thought there would be asimple way to adjust the video size so I can use STUDIO 8 to burn the SVCD.

Can you capture in raw avi? Then you can control the bitrate of svcd by converting the avi to an mpeg2 file.

I hear ya bro'. It might take some searching on the 'net to find someone who can get a "Registry tweak" for your Pinnacle card, so you can have the ability to record at various settings and bitrates.

I have a WinTV PVR-250 (real-time DVD/SVCD/VCD) and found a registry tweak on the net (actually it was this site - lucky me) that did just that.

    Good luck.

  7. I'm not sure what you mean by "Raw AVI" The problems arrize in that the software I use appears to be picky as to what format it will capture. Currently I'm capturing at full "DV" resolution, what ever that is. A 1 hour how eats up about 18G of hard drive space. I can export into MPEG, but being so new to this stuff, the MPEGS I downloaded to experiment with, the program couldn't open or recognoise. I do have several AVI choices if I capture using the software with my ATI RADEON AIW 7500 card, but again, so far, I have not had any sucsess using these for Studio 8 to burn. STUDIO 8 CLAIMS to be able to edit and open MPEG files, but whats the differnce between MPEG,MPG,MPEG-1,MPEG-2.

Unfortunately, the more I read, the more lost I get.

If I can find a format STUDIO 8 can OPEN and EDIT that I can CAPTURE with my ATI card, then I know I can adjust the BITRATE etc.. with the card. The problem is that if the VIDEO is over 39 minutes, STUDIO 8 wont let me. I don't know if it reads file size or just the amount of TIME the video takes to make this determination. It tells me both. (OVER "x" minutes as well as file size of about 670MB.

  8. DVWannaB,

Are you saying that a REGISTRY ENTRY could be limiting my ability to burn a 45 minute SCVD?

I thought it would be a software limit, as I am not even using the PCI card that came with my STUDIO 8 DELUXE for capturing TV. I can capture directly within the STUDIO 8 program from my ATI AIW RADEON 7500 card.

Maybe there is a registry entry that limits the software? It's worth a try. I'm out of hard drive space, but hate to loose the video footage I have only to redo it later.

  9. You can also try using Hardware encoders that does most of the job for you. Note also becouse its hardware encoding the video and audio on the fly it will take up about 700mb per hour of video.
Example I have DAZZLE II. Record the show then edit the comercials out then use the SVCD template save the MPEG. Use NERO to burn to SVCD.
Done. Its fast pretty much dummy proff. The quality is pretty good better then VCR. And If you are recording from SAT make sure you use the Svideo connector to the DAZZLE. I think this website has a simmalar product they advertise for.

Its an investment $200 but you can also use it to convert all your VHS collection
    Hope this helps.

bro', what I am referring to is the ability for your capture software to be tweaked (therefore more versatile and more capture options), that will enable you to get 45 minutes of SVCD on a disk. It is simply adjusting the bitrate and how it is encoded. I cannot say for sure, since I dont know a lot about your capture software, but I am almost positive it can be tweaked to do just that. There are dudes out there that can hack anything. I am sure someone out there can or has written a registry tweak.

  12. I guess the best thing would be to burn your SVCD on a DVD disk. The DVD will hold more than 4 GB so you can fit around 6 SVCDs on a DVD - of course the quality will not be as good as DVD.

Have you tried on KaZaa online movie trading? I found several popular TV shows there in AVI and various MPEG format ready to download. All you have to do than is make a menu and burn it.. The least hassel.

I found several episods of Jerry Seifeld there and some of them were in reasonably good quality.

  13. Broderp,
I have almost the identical set up as you (ATI AIW Radeon 7500, Studio 8). I also want to record TV shows, edit out commercials and burn them to disk. In fact your whole post could have been written by me. I originaly thought that computers would put the old VCR to shame. But Noooo. It's a pain and you lose quality.

I wish I had some answers for you but I'm still basically just keeping my videos on the computer (I have an 80 GB drive and 120 GB drive).

I just bought a DVD player and it seems promising but it is no magic bullet. It has it's own problems.

The only answer I can think of to your problem is to edit out commercials with TMPGenc's Mpeg Tools and then burn the resulting file with Nero. Of course then you lose all the ease of editing and slick menus that Studio 8 has.

    Keep at it.
