  1. Using a WinTV card for capturing. Sound is through my SB Live card.

I've captured dozens of laserdiscs with no problems. Those were all older discs with mono or stereo sound.

Now I'm trying to capture a disc that has Dolby 5.1 sound. I'm using the stereo output, so it's really just capturing the Dolby Stereo. Thing is, the sound comes out really bad. It's I have no idea why. I cranked it up to CD Quality, just like I always have. But it's sounds distorted.

    Any thoughts?

Just a long shot here... Is the noise kind of high-pitched and vaguely modem-tone sounding? If so, make sure your laserdisc player is playing the digital audio track, not the analog track. "Surround sound" is encoded into one of the analog channels (the right-hand one, I think) as digital data, and sounds like noise when played through speakers.

  3. I don't think so.

The analog stores the AC-3 RF signal on one channel and the commentary (if there is one) on the other channel, right? And since this LD *does* have a commentary, I would hear that playing as well, which I don't.

    Any other thoughts?
