What sort of help do you need ?

    The basics are simple :

Plug the output of your display device (i.e. laserdisc player, VHS etc) in the inputs of a capture device (capture card, ADVC, DV camera with pass-through) to transfer the video to your PC.

    Process the video if required.

Encode the video to DVD compliant mpeg-2 with compliant audio.

Author to DVD, with menus if desired.

    Burn to disc.

Sit back and enjoy your work.

All of these steps are covered in detail by many guides in the Guides section (to your left) or the User Guides forum.

Encode the video to DVD compliant mpeg-2 with compliant audio.>>

can explain a little more on this...

i got a capture card on my PC that i use to capture from my video cam. using virtualdub to collect the avi now.

i dun think ( although i have not check) that my 'older' vhs player has the proper output to connect to this capture card. ( i got to get that model number.... )

i get the basic idea that you are talking about... let me check what hardware i have that can be used. or that i need to purchase...

Some cards have hardware assisted mpeg-2 encoding, which can be great if space is limited or if you don't need to do any post-processing. I find for VHS source material that I need to usually do some noise reduction and colour correction, so I capture to either DV (moderate size, easy to work with) or Lagarith (much larger, lossless compression). I then use avisynth to process the video.

If you are using virtualdub to capture them you probably aren't encoding to mpeg-2 as you go.

See the top left corner of this page for a section called What is DVD. This will tell you about compliant resolutions and bitrates. Most Mpeg-2 encoders have specific templates or settings for DVD encoding.
