What are you attempting to do... archive them at a much lower bitrate or convert them for viewing on DVD players.

If you just want to archive I would suggest DVD compatible MPEG-2. Use TMPGenc and the DVD template since DV does no intra-frame compression you sould see a 5-10x compression on your files with almost no perceptible loss. Make sure to enable interlacing unless your DV is in progressive format.

  3. Thanks for the help, yeah, im trying to make the clips small enough to fit onto a VCD, so i want to convert it into a MPEG-1. I tried using TMPGENC, but it says that it doesnt support this type of DV file, i think i need a DV codec, any ideas where i can find one?? I appreciate the help, thanks again.

    Hello Doughboy

Try a Google search for "pdvcodec.exe". The first page is in Japanese. Go to the bottom of the page to download. Run it and TMPEGnc will be happy with DV stuff.

    Hope this helps.

Try here. If it works, you want the panasonic one. But the page may have been taken down.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
