** First a shout out to Major and RNC, these guys and many others like them are working hard on porting and coding very cool OS X software so that MAC users can enjoy VCD,SVCD and XSVCD creation. Thanks ! **
OK, here is what you need to do. "Assumes you have 1 VOB" If you need pre-VOB instructions then let me know.
#1. Download ffMpeg
http://homepage.mac.com/WebObjects/FileSharing.woa/wa/default?user=major4&templatefn=F...cty=US&lang=en
#1a. Read this post in full so you understand how to install ffMpeg.
http://www.vcdhelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=116471
Use ffMpeg to encode your VOB into a .MPG. Use the automatic settings that Major has set up for you. But, turn off all post processing. In the end, all you want to have is 1 .MPG file. Choose Pulldown 3:2 and Deinterlace as an options.
#2. Download DemuxMPEG
http://homepage.mac.com/lmc11/.Public/DemuxMpeg.sit
Use this to break the file into 2 separate streams (1 audio and 1 video)
#3. Download MissingMpegTools
http://homepage.mac.com/lmc11/.Public/MissingMpegTools.sit
Use this program to play around with the "offset". This is the only part of the process that is guesswork. If the video is ahead of the audio then start with -500 as the offset and move around from there. If the audio is ahead of the video start with +500 and move from there. I think that +/-500 is about 1/2 of a second. What you are doing here is trying to match the audio to the video. Before doing this download VLC http://www.videolan.org/ so that you can watch what you are doing.
Using MissingMpeg Tools choose the MUX option starting with -/+ 500 per above. MUXING takes much less time that encoding so an entire movie should MUX in about 10 minutes.
**IMPORTANT. You don't have to wait for the MUXING to be done in order to check your work. So while it is MUXING use VLC to watch the movie. If you didn't get the offset right stop the MUXING and start over with a new setting. Don't play around in offsets of less than +/- 100 because then you are dealing in fractions of a second and you will you will drive yourself crazy.
After you find the right offset move to step 4.
#4. Download MpegPowerTools
http://www.biermann.org/philipp/mpegcut/
Use this software to split your .MPG in 2 or more pieces so that you can burn them on CDs later. Try and keep each .MPG 350MB or less just to be safe. If you want you can play around with this but for most movies 350 megs should be good.
#5. Download VCDTools X
http://www.sbpr.a.se/systemjammers/vcdtoolsx/index.html
Use this program (vcdXgen button) to create a .XML file that can be used later to create the .IMG files necessary for burning.
#6. Open VCDTools X
Using VCDTools X (vcdXbuild button) create the Multitrack XA .IMG files that Roxio Toast needs to create the SVCD.
#7. Open Roxio Toast
Choose the Multitrack XA option, drag the 2 .IMG files into toast ignoring the "Pregap" track. Make sure they are in the right order i.e. 1 before 2. Then Burn
#8. Watch and enjoy.
If all else fails, hang tight. I am close (1 Month away) to releasing a new MAC forum web site that is going to focus strictly on VCD, SVCD and XSVCD for MAC only (NO DVD-R) and NO PC talk. There will be tools, instructions and discussion on how to make VCD, SVCD and XSVCD for the MAC.
I'll post the information here when it is ready.
If you want me to notify you when it is ready let me know via personal message from this site. I'm keeping a database of e-mails now so that when the site is ready I can notify those interested.
