Hi there, can anyone help? When I encode a movie with CCE v2.50 or any other version to SVCD MPEG2 format, the aspect ratio is all screwed up.
If I set it to SAR 1:1, when I play it back, it plays back in a small box in the middle of the screen with big black borders around it.
If I set it to 16:9, I play it back and it is widescreen ok but the aspect ratio is not the same as the original file, it is more like 16:4, the picture is really thin vertically.
If I set it to 4:3, I get the same results as SAR 1:1.
TMPGEnc has no problem with this aspect ratio thing, none at all, I have compared the two and TMPGEnc keeps the aspect ratio from the source file brilliantly.
Please can anyone help, maybe there is a setting I have missed in CCE or something which will allow me to keep aspect ratio as all I seem to be having is problems at the moment.
Thanks very much everyone.
Steve

The 16:9 flag in a SVCD isn't accepted by most dvd players so for true compatibility your basically stuck with 4:3 so always encode in this aspect ratio regardless of the aspect ratio of your source.
It seems you must be resizing incorrectly. What is the nature and resolution of your source and if you are frameserving then post your avs script or tell us what your filter settings are in vdub. -
Thanks Adam for getting back to me.
The nature of the source is a divx avi file
480x192 pixels
I am not frameserving, I have just got CCE to encode the video at VBR 2000-3000 bitrate and specified the audio from a seperate source which is a WAV file I have created using VirtualDub ... however, even if I encode it at 4:3, it ends up really small in the centre of the screen with the big black borders filling the rest of the screen, it is like looking through a letterbox then width ways it isn't widescreen format, it doesn't fill the screen top to bottom or left to right, it is very odd, can you help?
Thanks

Why not use CCE via TMPG? You can load the DivX into TMPG using whichever SVCD template fits the source. In TMPG set source aspect ratio 1:1(VGA). Video arrange method Full screen (keep aspect ratio). You can also use the clip frame filter, to check whether the DivX has not been cropped properly. (Cropping here won't affect the aspect ratio).
Now save a project file. Convert this .tpr project file with VFAPF Converter, and load the subsequent avi into CCE as normal. Once in CCE, select SAR 1:1, and procced as you would normally.
This always gives me correct aspect ratio with the SVCD, but to fill the screen on my widescreen TV I still need to use the zoom function. And that appies to every SVCD I own!
