I just got a Dell Dimension 4500 with a DVD player and 40x10x40x CD-RW with Easy CD Creator 5.2. Using Virtual Dub TMPGEnc and VCDEasy will I be able to burn a VCD? I already know how to do it but I was never able to because of my old hardware, but now I'm wondering if anyone has these Dell parts or knows if they work with VCDing.

I'm not too sure about the VCDEasy working ok. I was never able to
get it to work on my system. CD Creator 5.2, is that the Platinum Edition?
The basic version does not have the VCD option. The Platinum does.

As far as everything else, looks great! Just to compare:

    My home system= 500mhz AMD, 327ram. Encode time for a 1 hour
    40 minute movie is 8.5 - 9.0 hours.

P4 running at 2.4 gig with 512ram. Encode time on the same movie
    is 1 hr 15 minutes.

You should be plenty happy with your Dell.

    Enjoy!!

Thanks. Do you know of any VCD programs other than VCDEasy that would work well for me?

So far this combo has never failed:

    VDub, TMPGEnc and Nero.

    Goodluck!

  6. Nero is only really appropriate for simple multitrack VCDs. It's menuing system is both buggy and simple to a fault.

If you want more authoring options/flexibility, I strongly suggest you using VCDImager +/- a GUI (e.g., VCDEasy or TSCV).

There are some other commercial solutions (e.g., VideoPack5) that a pretty good too (though you will have to pay for it).
