  1. http://www.bootdiscworld.co.uk/playstation2.htm
Just saw this site selling boot discs for ps2s, no need for a mod chip to play back up games etc. Is this a scam or will it work? I've downloaded the supposed fully working boot disc off kazaa and burnt it to disc but surprise surprise it don't work. Is there any boot disk that does work or am I living on another planet? 2. Yeh, looks pretty convincing dosen`t it ?
Is it real - anyone know, I`d love to get one to !!
I don`t think it would be possible to get a downloadable version, just like the pSX boot disc it needs to be specially burnt, will never work on a cdr.
    Don`t download anything, it`s probably a virus !!

  3. The thing that worrys me though is, why do they sell in bulk? Is it because they want to shift as much crap as they can as fast as they can, then dissappear without a trace with our money, assuming it is a scam of course.

  5. I don't think it's a scam but it is misleading. This 'bootdisk' sounds alot like the plugin mod device+gameshark combo that's been around forever. If you read the product description it says "PSX2 owners dreams have come true with the first plug-in mod chip type device" it pretty much gives it away. True there's no MOD chip to install but you stil have to open up the PS2 and install the PCB card into the slot. Once that's installed the boot disc/gameshark disc, is use so you can swap in your backup games. This type of MOD device for the PS2 sells for under $20 US for the combo.

I just went the the aforementioned site and at the bottom found this:

We currently are mainly dealing in bulk due to our costs from single unit selling. We have now made our small units available but this may only be for a short time as it may endure more costs than profit. We apologize that our boot disc is priced dearer than it previously was but we were simply being ripped off by people purchasing the boot disc and copying it. We have now added protection to stop this, and we welcome back returning customers, Please hurry as these quantities may not last for long.
They're selling singles now for $30. --Matt

Don't have a PS2, but have done quite a few mods for people with the PIC1684 chip.
Is this not the same as the method where you put a genuine Sony disk in first, and with a spring on the cover's micro switch, you wait until the disk has booted, then replace the disk with a copy. Since the micro switch is held down it does not see the disk change.

A boot disk would also be needed with game copies that don't have the copyrighted boot section.

The disk can be made, and the software is available on the internet.
