hi,
i've got this bin/cue file thats an image of a vcd
so i map it as a cdrom drive using Daemon Tools
i try playing the mpeg with Windows Media Player, but it just hangs
so i use VCDGear to convert the bin/cue to a mpeg file
i try playing that file, doesn't work... i try getting some codecs install and re-install whatever i had (AC3, DIVx) ... i play the mpeg again and all i get is (crapped up audio) and no video... i look in the properties to see if it would show a codec but no.... can someone plz tell me what to do in order to play this damn mpeg? all i could find out about the sample mpeg's that came with the bin/cue file is that they were create with TMPGEnc
does anyone know what codec i need or what to do to play this mpeg or vcd?
thx

I'm not sure if i understand you correctly.
1. You said you map image drive, then what? you put only bin/cue file into that drive or you extract files out of bin/cue file. You should have dat file after extracting.
2. You said you convert bin/cue file with VcdGear. I'm not sure if VcdGear will do a perfect job converting bin/cue file to mpeg file. I think you mean convert from DAT file to MPG file, right?
3. You don't need any special codes for mpeg1(VCD). WMP will play just fine if you have a playable mpeg file.
If i were you, after failed using VcdGear, I would try to multiplex dat file(change .dat to .mpg) with TMPGEnc -
i used Daemon Tools so that a fake cdrom is created and it points to the bin/cue file and it treats it as if it was reading a regular cd (in this case a VCD since the bin/cue is an image of a VCD)
the directory structure of the VCD looks like this:
- EXT (directory)
- SCANDATA.DAT (21 KB)
- MPEG2 (directory)
- AVSEQ01.MPG (815,566 KB)
- SVCD (directory)
- ENTRIES.SVD (2 KB)
- INFO.SVD (2 KB)
- LOT.SVD (64 KB)
- PSD.SVD (1 KB)
- SEARCH.DAT (21 KB)
- TRACKS.SVD (2 KB)
so now i got this fake cdrom drive on my comp pointing to this bin/cue file which when i look at the drive contents shows me what u see above and naturally i try playing the AVSEQ01.MPG file rite? isn't that what i'm supposed to play? so i try playing it and my windows media player just sits there and sits and sits and doesn't do anything...
this bin/cue came with a couple of sample MPEG's (not in the bin/cue file but as separate actual .MPG files) that shows a small clip from the movie ... i tried playing those and all i get is crappy audio and no video
so i used VCDGear (which takes bin/cue files of VCD's as input and spits out .MPEG's ) ... so i do that and i get the same crappy audio and no video just as i did with those sample MPG's
so... can anyone please explain if i'm doing something wrong? or if i need to get something? err what going on?
thx

First of all you CD is not VCD, it is a SVCD CD.
Yes "AVSEQ01.MPG" is your main movie. To play SVCD/mpeg2 file you will need mpeg2 code, tho. If you dont' have any DVD Player in your PC I would suggest you to install one in order to play mpeg2 file correctly.
If you have code or dvd player install but still cannot play then I'd suggest you to try to multiplex that file AVSEQ01.MPG with TMPGEnc.
