why is my apex 1500 suddenly playing vcd choppy?

ok, i am out of town so i am not able to exactly check this out with other vcds...i hope it's just this particular movie.

i rented the count of monte cristo and created a vcd with it, which plays fine on my girlfriend's ad1200.....but i brought it home for my parents to watch and it would play fine for about 20 mins. and then it would start ...freeze-framing, i guess, although the audio still played perfectly. i believe this is the first vcd i have actually made from a dvd. i used tmpgenc's inverse telecine option, but other than that, i didn't do anything unique to this file. when i have a chance, i will check other vcds to make sure that the player isn't broken....

oh yes, i recently flashed it with the hiteker 1000 firmware, and also the cds i used are phillips 40x multi-speeds....

just an update - this is an isolated section of the movie. the rest of it plays fine, after a point. however, it does still play fine on my girlfriend's player. i burned the disc over and still get the same results, with only this one section messing up in my player. i don't have the dvd to rip anymore...so....help, please. is there a way i can repair this segment of the file on my computer to make it work properly?
