  1. I have tried this on here before but with no luck. I have an avi created from several high resolution images. The avi plays fine, no problems. I then use TMPGEnc to convert this to a VCD format mpg file. The problem here is that when I play the file I get flashing squares in the picture. These squares are about 5 or 6 mm big and only appear in the areas that have consistant colours, ie the sky. If I mess with the bitrate settings the squares get smaller, but don't go altogether.

Does anyone have any suggestions. As a slight aside, if I encode an avi from my camcorder the same way I don't have this problem, so it must be something to do with the original picture format.

Hers hoping that someone has the answer.

    Cheers Gary

Did you use the Soften Block Noise function in TMPGEnc?

Those are called macor blocks. to correct this there is an option in what of the setting tabs that removes (lowers) then for still pictures. "No motion search for still picture part by half pixel" check that and see if it makes a differance if it does a little and you want more than try using try the soften block noise also.

  4. Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried using both options, but it makes no difference. I have tried messing with settings in the quantrix matrix boxes, all to no avial.

Other bits that may help. Encoding to SVCD clears the problem, unfortunately my DVD player doesn't like this. If I use the still image section of VCDEasy which gives mpg files, I also don't have the problem, but then TMPGEnc reports that the files are not mpg files.

Hopefully someone else can help. Do I need to reduce the resolution of the pictures, the avi or anything else?
