VCD PAL vs NTSC

Hey does anyone know of a utility that will allow me to see if a VCD is either in PAL or NTSC format? (ie view the frame rate it is envoded in)

Virtual Dub is your best bet. There are other apps but you will
find that if you stick to VCD/SVCD work, Virtual dub will become useful
for other things as well.

..or you could right click on the .DAT video file, choose open with
media player2, right click on File and choose properties, mpeg.

I tried the mpeg properties program... it works fine with mpeg files, but when I try and open a dat file (from a VCD) it does not show me any of the video info, only the audio info.

Any idea what is wrong?

This happens when the dat file is on a CD rather than your HD. You can extract the dat (or a small portion of the dat) using Isobuster. Then it works properly.

If you place a shortcut to MpegProperties in C:\Windows\SendTo you can then have access by right-clicking on an mpeg/dat.

ok, thats good... but is there no way to quickly get the info. I did not really want to have to extract the mpg just to check the frame rate....

Also, I tried VirtualDub and it works fine but kind of has the same issue. It has to churn through the entire mpg before showing the info.

Is there any quicker way of doing this that you guys know of?

You only need to extra a tiny fragment of the mpeg!
