i am trying to use tmpgenc to create a svcd and nero to burn it to an 80 min nero is telling me to insert another cd that will fit the project what am i doing wrong?

You probably haven't enabled overburning. It's located under "File -> Preferences -> Expert Features".

I use Nero for burning, and have found it to be kind of a pain in the ass as far as (S)VCD's are concerned. I've found the best way is to use VCDeasy to make an image and either burn that, or mount it with daemontools, and do cd copy--daemontools never fails
