  1. I've tried using the asus wdm capture driver ver 1.04g (newest avail) and
the windows wfm capture driver but still get no frames in virtualdub past the 1hr 11min mark. Audio still gets captured. I tried the search function on the board but it doesn't work for some reason, not sure if its just me or if others can search. My machine:

    abit kr7a-raid
    maxtor 40 gig
    athlon 1ghz
    768meg ddr 2100
    win2k pro sp2
    asus v8200 deluxe

I checked microsft's website and couldn't find anything addressing the problem including sp3 which i'm gona install anyway. Does anyone have this same problem? Thanks in advance for any help, this website has been great in helping me get started!

What file system are you using? NTFS or FAT32? If its FAT32, then that could be your problem....

It's not a filesystem problem - but a known bug with a lot of capture drivers. Here is some more information
Why does my video capture stop at 1 hour, 11 minutes, but I still get audio?
This is a bug in many video capture drivers. The exact limit is actually 232 microseconds, or 1 hour, 11 minutes, 34 seconds. Many TV tuner devices are susceptable to this bug, as are the miro/Pinnacle DCxx devices; you may be able to fix the problem simply by upgrading to the latest capture drivers. There are two incarnations of this problem. In the non-fatal version, video frames are still sent to the application, but the timestamp on the video stream starts over from zero. VirtualDub will correct for this problem automatically, allowing you to capture beyond 71 minutes. The other possibility is that the driver stops sending data altogether. VirtualDub will notify you if this occurs, but will not be able to capture past 71 minutes in this case.

Vanilla capture devices based on the Conexant/Brooktree BT848/878 reference drivers are usually either immune to the problem or have the non-fatal form of it. I'm told that the bug in Pinnacle's DC30(+) drivers still exists but is nonfatal as of the 1.41a drivers. As of this writing, the bug in the DC10/10+/20/20+ drivers is fatal and cannot be worked around.

There are apparently a few drivers that are even susceptable to half this limit (35 min.) due to using signed 32-bit arithmetic. VirtualDub does not yet detect or attempt to bypass the 35 minute limit that results.
    taken from www.virtualdub.org

You may not be able to work around this since you mentioned you downloaded the latest drivers - but at least you know the reason for the problem

  4. I'm using ntfs so it should be good up to 4 gig. Does anyone know where i can get a generic capture driver for virtualdub? It looks like the only solution other than switching capture programs i assume?

It's not Virtualdub that's the problem - it's your capture driver
The Asus cards used to use a Philips SAA??????? chip or a Nvidia version of the same thing - if that's still the case your screwed, there are no "generic" drivers for that anymore

If they use a Brooktree (Conexant) version then yes there is generic working drivers to be found

  6. Hi D_knife,

Yup the v8200 uses the phillips 7108 capture chip so i guess i'm screwed. I guess i could just capture 1 hr 10 mins and then stop and start again but thats a pain. Maybe a should geta visiontek xtasy everything for capturing?

I haven't ever tried it - but what about virtualdub's segmented capture? this splits the streams based on disk space - it may just work enough for you???????

  8. I'm not sure about splitting the capture into 2 different files since the capture driver would still be running past 1hr 11mins just recording onto disk in 2 places. Should have the same problem but i'll try it anyway and let you know what happens. thanks!

Im using av_io to capture with my asus 7700 capture card. The shareware version will allow 3 files to be created (3 x 4GB) depending on the quality you choose you should be right for a couple of hours at least.

  10. I tried av_io and since its using the same wdm windows capture driver or my asus cap.driver it also stops after 1hr 11mins 40 secs. So i'm really stuck now. Short of buying a new capture card like the visiontek xtasy everything i don't know what else to do? Anybody?

  11. I just tried virtualdub's segmented capture and it still stops after 1 hr 11 mins 40 secs. Man i really thought i was getting a good deal when i got my asus v8200, its awesome for gaming and everything else just can't capture because the drivers haven't got fixed! Wish i would have know this before i dropped 250 for the card back when lol.
