i ripped and reencoded the bitrate of a dvd yesterday. when i did this i used mediapipe. after i set up the pipeline and started it i get a message saying:
mpegdecoderome fields are repeated. although the framerate of [name of file] is defined as 29.970, it probably isn't. this pipe will correctly interpret the frame rate, but if you know what the correct frame rate is recommend using "change frame rate" pipe to fix frame rate.
ok so, thinking that mediapipe would correctly read the frame rate of the original file [assuming that's what it means by "correctly interpret"] i imported that new m2v file and my ac3 audio file into dvdsp and built the track. i previewed the build in dvdsp to see if the sync was right, but it is waaaaay off [at least 30-45 sec].
i've read on here that you can reencode an m2v file with cleaner, but its slow as hell. and i'm new to mediapipe so it is entirely possible that iu'm setting the frame rate wrong when i configure the mpeg encoder.
can anyone give me a clue as to what to do? its an ntsc m2v file that is encoded at 29.970 fps and that's what the source appears to be [i cant get mpeg info to open the original m2v rip, so i can't be sure]. i have tried to reencode the m2v file with the "change frame rate" pipe, but it crashes mediapipe when i try to start it.
a couple of questions. is there a software that will tell you what the frame rate of the original dvd or ripped m2v is? where can i get it? and is there a good bitrate calculator foir mac?

The DVD is most likely NTSC FILM which is 23.976/24 FPS but it is tagged to play at 29.97 (NTSC). This is how movies are normally shot. They save film by recording at a lower FPS, but TV uses 29.97 so it has to be tagged to play at that speed. I believe the DVD player duplicates a few frames automatically here and there to get it upto 29.97.
