i got a divx "happy G1lm0r3" i open it in virtual dub. read file info and it says divx 4.12 audio unknown. so i try to save uncompressed and get an error about the input and the output are not the same format. so i try the direct stream method of saving wav, which i am assuming is an ac3. then i try to convert with headache.. with .wave extension i get error in headache which says could not find data chunk. with ac3 extension it says could not find ac3 header.
i try just using the original divx.avi as video and audio input in tmpgenc. the divx file info said 23 fps in virtual dub, so i use the vcd film template. i make sure output is full screen keep aspect ratio and i change the motion search to high quality(slow).. i pick source range and use first 45 minutes of movie as first vcd and so on for the 2nd.
mpg comes out jerky, peoples movements are very staggered. whereas the original divx file played smoothly. help please
ps also, i did the same as above with O Brother where art thou. and the first mpg plays smooth. but the second one is jerky, same settings just start frame and end frame are different.
maybe the audio is mp3 and does tmpgenc have trouble with mp3 ???
thanks in advance

i think i figured out the problem with virtual dub and the audio, i am using the regular divx 5 codecs and then i also use only the fraunhofer mp3 audio codec in the nimo pack, i dont install any of the video or other codecs from the nimo, and the audio thing is good now. but i am still getting a jerky picture when i encode to vcd,
when i open the divx into tmpgenc. at the bottom it says 30 fps, and when i read the file info for the same divx in virtual dub it says 23 fps. so i have been using the ntsc film template and motion search on high quality (slow).
should i try the 29.9fps / ntsc template instead???
thanks in advance

ok, im babbling now. but i just tried the 29.9 fps ntsc template in tmpgenc, and encoded a 3 minute sample from the middle of my movie. and the picture is not jerky at all. so i guess it is ok to use ntsc instead of ntsc film if the file info in virtual dub says 23 fps. and the info in tmpgenc says 30 fps when i first load the divx file... if this wrong or not always the case please let me know.
thanks
