VBR AC3 to ac3

8) what's CBR/ABR/VBR ?
CBR means that the stream's bitrate is constant and never changes.
VBR means that the stream's bitrate is variable, and changes in according to the amount of info that needed to be encoded.
ABR has a variable bitrate for each frame, but its average bitrate is a constant
im trying to copy a film that has vbrac3 sound which is giving me all the problems

yes i know the meaning of vbr etc .... but i encode dolby digital professionally with a dolby hardware encoder and i dont recall any such setting as a vbr ... i just set the bit rate, far as i knew it was a cbr file ... no authoring program ever complained .

so i would like to know how one makes a vbr ac3 file ... vs a normal ac3 file ..


anyway - to fix it - just convert it back to wav files and re-encode them .. but some quality will be lost

btw -- CBR data rate DOES change .. everyone gets that wrong it seems .. what it means that it fills the buffer at a constant rate but the data rate can change ...

and bit rate is NOT for each frame but is derived over each GOP .. and div up ..
