  1. Hi. I'm fairly new to burning DVDs and am looking for any information on adding Subtitle tracks to a DVD+R to be played in my standalone DVD player. I have several movies in DIVX format that I plan to convert to MPG2 and burn to DVD. These DIVX files have associated SMIL subtitle files. My ideal scenario would be to convert these SMIL subtitle files into a subtitle track that I can turn on and off on my standalone player. If that is not possible I would like to know how to overlay the subtitles into the MPG2 file before I burn it to DVD. I have seen many faqs on ripping subtitles from DVDs and for watching subtitle files on a PC, but nothing on adding subtitles to a DVD for use in a standalone player. Please let me know if I missed anything, or if this is just simply not possible.

    Thanks!

  2. use the manuals in this site...with TMPGEnc and virtualDub you can add subtitles to Divx and convert with TMPGEnc to MPEG2...and you will have mpeg2 file than you can burn to a DVD-R ...

It is possible to create one with selectable dvd subtitles but you need an authoring software that support subtitles but they are very expensive and complicated.
    dvdmaestro for example

(you first convert your avi to mpeg2 dvd standard format and also the subtitles to dvdmaestro format)
I dont know any other cheaper authoring tools that support selectable subtitles.
