Can anyone please explain how to convert popular file types (.mpg, mpeg2, DivX, etc) to .wmv format or point me to a guide? i didn't see any guide to the .wmv format on you site, but maybe i'm blind today or somethingthank you for your help. oh yeah, i do have TMPGEnc Plus 2.5, i'm not sure if that will do it or not, but any help is appreciated.

Try Microsofts site. I have used the Windows Media Encoder to
encode files in the past to .wmv format. I even hear there is
a new version out.
BTW: Why do you want to convert mpg to wmv? MPG is much easier
to work with. -
Thanks a lot Megadeus, that's the kind of info i was looking for, someplace to read up on it
I heard wmv gets good compression, usually around 150 meg/cd, if the person who was telling me was correct, and i wanted to archive somethings on cd's without it taking forever with my slow 4x burner. I use a tv-out to watch movies anyway, so it doesn't make much difference if it's in a vcd or wmv format. thanks again.

Why do you want WMV, and converting a DivX to WMV is not going to achieve much, as the DivX is using a good compression anyway, and if you used a higher bitrate you could end up with something much larger.
Vdub
Video > full processing mode
Video > compression > codec > DivX 3.11 Alpha (Low motion) > bitrate (start with 400)
Audio > full processing mode
Audio > compression > codec > DivX or MP3 > bitrate > (chose one that uses the same frequency and a low bitrate)
SAVE AVI
But remember if your source is poor your output will also be poor
Vdub will handle AVI, Mpeg 1 but not Mpeg 2, you need to use TMPGEnc for Mpeg 2 with file > output to file > AVI etc
Or use M$ MPEG 4, V3 which will be the same as WMV -
archiving in wmv? usually you want to store your videos in the highest quality available... just in case in the future you want to edit them and/or recompress them. if u store your video in that format...you're really limiting your options. Divx is the way to go! yeah if your streaming video...wmv [and .rm] are goood codecs.

I didn't know that, thanks for the info, you're right, i read up on it some more, DivX does seem to have a lot more advantages. I'll take that route.
Thanks guys.
