I used to be able to load DV into Virtualdub. Since I installed Pinnacle Studio 8 Virtualdub will no longer import my DV (the avi will still load into TMPG).
The error I get is:I have since installed the Canopus DV codec from the tools section, with no improvement."Couldn't load decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown)
Virtualdub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Direct Show codecs, such as those used by WindowsMedia Player, are not suitable.
I'm sure there must be a simple solution (besided uninstalling Studio 8!) 8) but so far I have been unable to track down the answer.
Any sensible ideas gratefully received!

Have you tried the Main Concept DV Codec? When I got that same messge from VD a few weeks ago, that codec did the trick. Just a suggestion.

Thanks. I did try to get that, but I could only find a link to a demo version. Maybe that's all that is needed??
However, I have just come across a couple of solutions, which may be of interest.
1. Create an avisynth file by making a text file with the following text and renaming it to .avs. DirectShowSource("movie.avi")
This worked well, except it only loaded the video portion of the avi. I'm sure this could be extended to include the audio, so, any avisynth experts out there know???
2. I found a program called Canopus DV File converter, which can convert losslessy between 3 different formats. This worked, and I think merits inclusion in the Tools section. 8)
