I have downloaded some divx/avi files but when i load blade2 for instance into v-dub to save out the audio to wav in full processing mode it gives me an error "audio compression not compatible with imput format" I have saved it out in direct stream but when i play it back it gives error "unsupported audio format" I have noticed in the file info tab it says unknown compression for audio.I think there must be a new audio compression codec out there as its only affecting some of the very latest divx films. Can anyone help?? Unlikely. Have you tried *Direct stream copy* and treating it as AC3? The only audio compression formats around are ogm, mp3 and AC3.

There are others, but you are very unlikely to come across them.

How do i go about treating it as ac3 ?? Its wierd how the divx file plays back fine in wmp and realplayer but the direct stream audio just dont want to know, have come across 3 films in the last few days Blade2,JohnQ and Harts War all with this problem. At the moment i'm having to just use tmpenc which works ok but i like to run the wave thru besweet and change from 23.97fps to 25fps

If it is AC3, extract as a "wav" using Direct stream copy, and change the extension to .AC3. If it is, it will load into HeadAC3che and you can convert it to to wav.

    Get HeadAC3he at http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/headac3he-0.23a.rar

Occasionally I come across DivX which have mp3 audio which will not extract in the usual way in Virtualdub. In these cases, extract the "wav" using Direct stream copy as before, and change the extension to .mp3. Use any prog you like to change the mp3 to wav.

I would bet that your audio is one or the other. 8)

Thanks for the help banjazzer i have downloaded headac3he and will try it on my next job.Ii have also found another solution which was save out the audio in tmpgenc and convert the (in my case) 23.97fps mp2 to a 25fps wave using besweet then load the wave and divx in v-dub and save out at 25fps,which has just done the trick for blade2....Spaceman
