Okay, I've been using this guide to convert MPG to DivX AVI:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/avi2divx.htm

It's worked great for me on my 9x machine, but when I run VirtualDub on my XP box, it doesn't give me all those options for the various qualities of the MP3 audio codec. I get bitrates ranging between the 20-60 kbps range, but no higher, so I can't make a selection of 128 kbps, which kinda blows. Any idea why this is happening to me? Is there an MP3 audio codec I need to be installing from somewhere? Not sure it would be on one of my machines and not the other.

  2. Yes, that is the crippled Fraunhofer mp3 codec that comes with XP. I guess MS didn't want pay for the full version while promoting their own wma format. DivX 3.11 comes with the full Radium-enhanced Fraunhofer codec and I think there is an ACM-codec version of LAME as well but haven't tried it.

Must be that I had DivX 4 on my 9x machine. I guess DivX 5 (which is what I installed on XP) doesn't do the whole job, which is fairly suprising.
