g'evening
i have a very picky dvd player that seems to read only 2 brands of disc, but seems to be able to pick up on anything i throw at it on these cds (i.e. sound quality, bitrate) and i began to wonder, although my theory may be a bit of stretch, dumbest question you have ever heard, or common sense....would i be able to reencode files to a larger size (sizes other than 320x244 or whatever it is exactly) and have it viewable on my dvd player? i have many dvd rips that shrink in dimension after reencoding and lose a large portion of quality irregardless of bitrate, and i was wondering if i can keep the same measurments of the rips, or any origional size of a video, and be able to lose less quality upon veiwing...it may be partially due to the large size of my television (50 somethin)...any suggestions, answers etc...?
Thanks Alot

You can check the DVD Player Compatability List link on the "Other" frame at the left on this site, to see if you player supports XVCD or XSVCD (non-standard encoding).
Otherwise try a short encoding and put it on a CD-RW and try it out. For better quality with NTSC video you can try 352x480 or 480x480 resolution. Depending on your player, you may have to limit the video bitrate to something like 2Mbps or 2.5Mbps.
