I'm gonna upgrade my 1gig Tbird to a 1700+ XP processor. Will I notice a speed increase in encoding? I'm currently using dvd2svcd (using CCE 2.5 SP for the encoding). Ripping a Movie typically takes me something like 18 hours from start to finish.

    my current setup is:

    ecs k7s5a
    1gig tbird
    384megs sdram
    WD 80gig 8meg cache drive
    pioneer 106s slot load dvd

  2. You will definitely see a performance increase. I have an 1700+ XP processor and 256 MB of DDR RAM, using CCE 2.5 and DVD2SVCD a 90 minutes movies takes about 7-8 hours to encode to SVCD using a 4 pass VBR. Your times should be similar although I'm not sure how big a difference the SDRAM would make.

I also own an athlon xp 1700+
A 45 min Avi, when I use TMPGenc Plus and I encode to mpeg 2 with 2 pass VBR, needs 2 Hours @ Motion Estimate Search mode and 3 Hours @ High quality mode.

  5. REDi: Your encoding time will vary greatly depending on the type of resize filter you use, output resolution, MPEG1 or MPEG2, framerate, and any other filter you use. It also helps speed things up if your DVD-ROM and your Hard drive you intend to rip to is on seperate channels. That's most likely why your speed has increased.
