I'm trying to figure out how to calculate the increase in performance between PC configurations.
For instance:
PC X takes 0:13:15 (hour, mins, secs) to render a 5 minute video
PC Y takes 0:04:31 to render the same 5 minute video
Basically, how much faster is PC Y than PC X in this situation?
It's confusing for me because the new value is lower than the original. I tried the formula
(increased amount - original amount) / original amount x 100
but it gives me a number that doesn't look right.
I hope I can get an answer to this, I'm starting to feel really dumb![]()

A simple answer could be derived by converting the times into seconds and dividing one into the other.
13.15 is 795 seconds, 4.31 is 271 seconds.
795/271=3.44,
The faster PC is almost 3 1/2 times faster than the slower. -
I don't see how you get 3.44.
My calculator says 795/271 = approx. 2.934 -
Yeah, I get ~2.93 too. I suspect davexnet made a typo: 795/231=3.44.
You can also look at this the other way around: 271/795 = 0.34. So the faster CPU reduced the conversion time by 66 percent. -
even without converting to seconds, pc Y is almost 300% faster than pc X by simply dividing the larger time by the lower time.
and its 2.9335 or 293.35% -
1) Find you current CPU in CPU Benchmarks site
2) Get benchmarks value of current CPU: CPU Mark (higher is better)) and Rank(lower is better)
3) Find CPU you want to compare in CPU Benchmarks site
4) Compare 2 CPUs benchmarks values and calculate in percents increase
It not will be 100% correct but it give you some indication
