  1. Hi, six months later i got Dazzle DVC II PCI card. But, until now i can't make a vcd that really can play on every VCD player (i have two: Toshiba VCD and Philips VCD player-in my country VCD is most popular video player).
    The problem is:
    1. some times the VCD i made can play in Toshiba, but can't play on another. The message on VCD player: No disc!).
    2. Some time it's can play on several VCD player, but the pictures is jaggy, or
    3. Can play on severeal VCD player, but the pictures is stop at beginning frame, and the sound play continuosly.

My source video is analog: VHS casette that play on Panasonic VCR and Sony Handycam.
My computer spec: P4 1.5 GHz, 256 RAM, 60 GB HD. Yamaha CD-R. I burn my VCD with Nero 5.5

Oya. I have read "how to make a good looking VCD using a Dazzle Capture Card by Doug Mazinz, but it not help my problem.

Can anyone help me to make a GOOD VCD that REALLY CAN PLAY on most VCD player?

  2. If you see "No Disc" then the problem is probably incompatibility between the media and the player. Check the link to the left labeled DVD Players and see what people say about your player and the media it supports.
Live every day to the fullest as if it is your last, because someday it will be.

  3. There may be a media compatibility issue with your Toshiba, but if your VCD doesn't play on your VCD player (I assume you are using CD-R), then there is something seriously wrong with the way you made your VCD.

You will need to provide more details on how you made your VCD.

  4. Ok, thanks Michael..there is several way that i have try to make my VCD

    A.USUALLY WAY
    1. Capture
Before capture, i always play my source video (VHS or Hi8 casette) connect to my TV. Everything looking good, pictures, sound, colour etc.
    - With Movie Star, usually i use "VCD templates" (352x288 pxl, VBR 1150, Datarate 184 KB/s) for capture.
    - Produce with Movie Star video editor, VCD template (352x288, now VBR is 5000)
    2. Burn
I burn my clip with Nero 5.5 at 8x speed..done. I'm sure i not make mistake at this proces..

    B. OTHER WAY that i have try
    1. Capture
    - I use Doug Mazinz tips: "Movie Template" 720x576 PAL (is it correct MOVIE QUALITY? I'm still confuse with this word: movie quality)
    2. Encode with TMPGEnc
    3. Burn with with Nero, error message appear: stream encoding which is invalid for a (super) video CD, i choose: Reencode the video file,
    - Burn it at 8x speed..done

In this proces, i have try too:
    1. repair that clip with TMPGEnc repair, after done, warning message appear: 188309 s packet cause buffer underflow. The MPEG file might cause error when it played..leave that warning...and burn again with Nero..done
    2. burn with Adaptec Easy CD Creator Deluxe: error message appear that clip not VCD compliant. Repair with TMPGEnc, burn again...done.

    C. Blank CD, cables...etc
    - Usually i use not branded CD blank. Why? It's cheap (about 1/4 US dolar/each), course. And I really-really know most VCD (generally pirates VCD) in market use this blank CD, and as long as I know, it PLAY on EVERY VCD player! I have try with CD blank branded too, like Samsung, Sony etc.
    - I use composite cable to capture that came with Dazzle.
    - I have try too other way for capture: from my VCR/handycam player AV out, first the cables connect to VCD player AV in. From that VCD player out (with composite cable), connect again to Dazzle bridge AV in....it will make the clip "similiar" to make VCD, my friend said.

    D. And the result is.....
    - My VCD sometime looking good, sometime not.
    - Sometime can play on one VCD player (NOT DVD PLAYER, i haven't try it), on another not.
    - Sometime sound play continuosly, but the picture stop.
    - Some time it play on several VCD player (I have try three different VCD player), but the picture is jaggy, we can look many artefac at several frames, SPECIALLY when it play on more 17" screen TV.

I have spent many CD, many time... I'm going to poor man..

Actually, you've made a big mistake.

Have a look at http://www.vcdhelp.com/vcd.htm to see what the VCD specs are. You've gone WAY out of VCD specs and it isn't surprising why your "VCDs" don't play on stand-alone VCD players (but your DVD player "may" play your high bitrate XVCDs).

VCDs MUST be encoded at a bitrate of 1150 kbit/s CBR only for the video and 224 kbit/s for the audio.

I've never heard of your MPEG encoder but I suggest that you have a look at TMPGEnc. It is free and one of the best quality MPEG-1 encoders in existence.

  6. trust me.. its your software.. i have the same setup and ive never convinced myself, even up to now that i got my money's worth with DAZZLE...

maybe what you can do is try to capture your VHS through other means.. one way is perhaps using your VIDEO CAM.. ever heard of "PASS THROUGH"? this way, you not only capture your video but also convert it to DV......

I 've try my VCD on three my VCD player, and it's work.

BUT, some clips still jaggy and choppy (MY clip capture with Doug Mazzinz way, encoding with TMPEGEnc 2.57, burn with Nero 5.5)
Do U still have any idea?

    Thank's again
