  1. I have downloaded an AVI file with dual audio (2 languages). Can I separate the picture with no sound in one file, language 1 in another file (just the sound) and language 2 in a third file (again just the sound)?

    Best regards,

    Depends
Try loading the AVI into www.goldwave.com see if the right and left channel has different languages

  3. I have loaded the AVI into GoldWave, but the left and right channel contain the same language.

In Windows Media Player using Morgan Stream Switcher I can hear the language I want by editing the *.mss file setting Audio_def = 1 or 2.

VirtualDub identifies audio compression as Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 and the video decompressor as DivX MPEG-4 Low-Motion.

I normally convert AVI to MPEG using TMPGenc, but I have never tried converting dual audio AVI files before. Converting this dual audio AVI file it seems I only get the first language and I need the second...

In VirtualDub the "Save Wav" fuction also only seems to give me a *.wav file containing the first language.

Please help me! I need the video and second language in a MPEG I can use to create a VCD.

    Best regards,

    A multi channel MP3 ??

    Try HeadAC3he, it may help

If you can hear/play the audio you want, then you could also capture it in Goldwave

  5. Unfortunately HeadAC3he did not help me.

However, before playing the AVI in RealOne Player I can go to Tools - Preferences - Content and select "Play overdub track". Then RealOne Player plays language 2. If I instead select "Show subtitles" language 1 plays.

I don't know how an "overdub track" works. Maybe my original question should be rephrased to: "How do I extract an overdub track from an AVI file?"

Please tell me which program I should use. I can't seem to get GoldWave to extract language 2, but maybe I am doing something wrong...

    Best regards,

    Well this should work

    Vdub

    Audio > direct stream copy
    SAVE WAV

    Rename WAV to AC3

    Then try the AC3 programs

    Lots here

    BeSweet 1.2 ?

  7. But when I use Vdub to do a direct stream copy and save as WAV audio stream 2 seems to be lost.

GraphEdit gives me the following on the original AVI:
    AVI file -> AVI splitter.
AVI splitter (stream 00) -> DivX Decoder Filter -> Video renderer.
AVI splitter (stream 01) -> MPEG layer-3 decoder -> (input 01) Morgan stream switcher -> Default direct sound device.
AVI splitter (stream 02) -> MPEG layer-3 decoder 0002 -> (input 02) Morgan stream switcher -> Default directsound device.

On the WAV (renamed to AC3) I get:
AC3 file -> Wave parser -> MPEG layer-3 decoder -> (input 01) Morgan stream switcher -> Default directsound device.

On the WAV (or AC3) I can't see the individual audio streams!

I have seen a lot of posts on how to put video and two audio streams together in an AVI (to be burnt on a SVCD), and I believe I have even seen guides covering this subject, but I have not been able to find anything explaining the other way around: How do I separate an AVI in video stream and two audio streams?

Am I doing something terrible wrong? I just want to extract the video stream and 1 audio stream (the correct one of cause) so that I can make a MPEG file with TMPGEnc and burn it on a VCD... If I just take the original AVI and convert to MPEG in TMPGEnc I get the wrong audio stream...

    Best regards,

Have you tried grahedit to do the split ?
delete one of the channels, then use file writer to output to AVI or WAV, or insert a DivX codec to make the file smaller

    AVI splitter (stream 01) -> MPEG layer-3 decoder -> AVI MuX (1) > File Writer (1) (audio)

I know that DVD2AVI will let you pick the audio track you want to extract, or simply extract all audio tracks. I don't know if you can input an AVI as the source file, but you should be able to pull out the audio track with ease if it supports it.

Can someone clarify if DVD2AVI will support an AVI input?

  10. Problem solved! Thank you very, very much KingJohn. You have been most helpful. I think I have learned a lot by following your advice and reading guides and previous posts I have come across in the process.

I used GraphEdit on my original AVI, deleted the video and first audio stream and used the file writer to create a new AVI with the sound from the second audio stream.

After that it was easy as normal: I used TMPGEnc to convert to MPEG using original AVI as video source and the sound AVI created using GraphEdit as audio source. Then I burned a VCD with Nero from the MPEG.

The key point is the file writer in GraphEdit. It seems like you can extract any video or audio stream to a file using file writer.

Glad you got it sorted, glad we got there in the end I do recommend Graphedit all the time with ASF/WMV conversions.

Next time someone asks, Ill start with GraphEdit and finish with goldwave
