  1. I was using Tmpgenc. There were sound in the original AVI but not in mpg after conversion. The setting I went for inc video and sound filespointing at the the same AVI. When it was actually processing the conversion, the stream type at the bottom of right habd corner points at the 4th option (ie system - video+audio). I just don't understand why no sound. Thanks.

    You need to find what kind of audio the XviD has and then extract as an uncompressed wav to input into TMPG. The method of extraction will depend on the type of audio. Often XviD has ogg audio, for which you are best using Graphedit.
