What I'd like to know is an easier way to sync up my audio with video when converting an avi file. I tried using the source range, but it's jsut so tedious trying to find the right spot down to the milisecond. Is there and easier way or andother program that wont put it out of sync in the first place?

When I capture with Video Studio 6, I do not have the problem. But I do like those cool filters and frameserving with the Virtual Dub/TMPGEnc combination. Quite a "one-two punch".
Hello. -
Ok I tried using Video Studio, but still the sync is jsut as off as it was when I tried with TMPGEnc. Any other ideas?

After you load the AVI file, select Video-->Scan video stream for errors. If none, select File-->save wave....
Load the original file as input video into TMPGEnc. Use the new was file as input audio. Select your template and encode.Hello. -
in vdub? It doesnt seem to have that option of scanniung video stream for errors.

You need this version:
http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/virtualdub.html
Scroll down to mp3_freeze version.
You will find Video Scan there.
It will identify the junk frames and you can then remove then in Vdub."Today is only yesterdays tomorrow" -
ok, so I canned it for errors and it says that the bad frames have been logged. Where is this log? What do I do next? Should I delete the frames amually? If so how? And How to I get the audio to sync up. Thanks

The log should be somewhere on your C: drive most likely. Yes, you have to manually delete the junk frames.

Ok, I did everything, took out the bad frames and all, then converted it and the audio is still outa sync. Maybe I'll just keep trying to get the audio gap fixed right witht he source range option. If you have anyother ideas I would like to hear them. Thanks again.

When you extracted the bad frames, did you run the AVI to check for sync?
If its ok, extract the audio and save as a WAV ,then use WAV as audio source in TMPGE.
(if the original AVI was in sync before you removed the bad frames then the removal of the frames should not affect the audio sync for the remainder of the movie).
Another thing you could do is to run the movie in Virtualdub as Direct Stream copy (in audio and video tabs) and save AVI."Today is only yesterdays tomorrow" -

From the above to would use "Goto" and type 56789
At that point you will see an error, now click the yellow keyframe (Back once) this moves you to the nearest keyframe, this is now marked as start
Now select "Goto" and type 56791
Now click the yellow keyframe (Forward once) and mark this as end.
Press the delete key, and do the same for 12344 - 12346
Cutting at delta frames can cause even more problems...
Once you have removed all junk frames..
Video > direct stream copy
Audio > direct stream copy
SAVE AVI
Save out movie2.AVI
Play that movie to make sure there are no more problems with lip sync, if there are, re-load the movie 2 and...
Audio Full processing mode
Audio > conversion > 44.1Khz
SAVE WAV
Use that WAV with movie 2 AVI in TMPGEnc and test output after a few minuets. If you still have lip sync and its constant, you can use the settings in TMPGEnc to add a +/- audio gap
